What do dashboard warning lights mean?

Dashboard lights follow a traffic-light logic. The colour tells you how urgent it is before you identify the symbol.

Red means stop

Oil pressure, coolant temperature, brake system and charging warnings in red mean pull over safely and switch off. Continuing to drive risks serious damage.

Amber means investigate

Engine management, ABS, traction control, DPF and tyre pressure warnings are amber. The car is usually driveable, but something needs looking at.

Green and blue are information

These simply confirm something is switched on, such as lights or cruise control.

Photograph it

Warning lights sometimes clear themselves between the drive and the appointment. A photo of the cluster means the workshop still knows what you saw.
