Signs your car battery is failing
Batteries rarely fail without warning — they just fail quietly enough that the warning gets ignored until the first cold morning.
Slow cranking
The engine turning over more slowly than it used to, especially first thing, is the clearest early sign.
Electrical oddities
Start-stop no longer working, dashboard warnings appearing at random, headlights dimming at idle, or the radio resetting all suggest the battery or charging system is struggling.
It isn't always the battery
Repeated flat batteries can be caused by an alternator that isn't charging properly, or by something drawing current after the car is locked. Testing both is worth doing before buying a new battery.
