Interim vs full service — what's the difference?

Service levels are an industry convention rather than a legal standard, so the exact contents vary between garages. The principle is consistent.

Interim

Typically a shorter-interval service centred on oil, oil filter and a safety-focused inspection. It suits high-mileage drivers who want the oil changed part-way between annual services.

Full

A broader annual service that adds further filters and a more detailed inspection. This is what most private motorists have once a year.

Major

Extends the full service with longer-interval items such as additional filters and spark plugs where the vehicle's schedule calls for them.

Ask what's included

Whoever services your car, ask exactly which items are covered. A cheap headline price with a short list isn't a saving.
